These are my personal video projects. Many were created from Super8 silent and sound film. There are tens of thousands of Regular8 and Super8 films that were created in the 1930's through the 1980's that contain so much history. Not only families but historical events as well. The most famous of course is the 1963 Zapruder film of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. My own films contain scenes of race tracks, buildings and lakes that are now gone and sadly friends and family members who are no longer with us. I encourage everyone to find your old films and have them converted to digital video so you can preserve those memories for many generations to come. The technology of today can insure a fantastic conversion and the experience of a good editor and effects artist can make those images as perfect as possible. And with the internet you can share your memories almost instantly thanks to sites such as YouTube and Crackle. |
All of the Super8 transfers that are presented on this site were done via a digital process, not the older process using a rear projection screen and mirror. There are no hot spots or flicker created during the transfer process and a low wattage light source is used so there was never any danger of burning the film. In addition to the mechanical process all transfers were fully attended, meaning that they are monitored and adjusted for changes in lighting and white balance. |
This is a 1974 Super8 film of the Camel GT Race at Mid Ohio. It is a 4 minute film of the Corvette parade lap and the beginning of the race. The film was in very bad shape and required serious restoration efforts. This is the first draft of the video. I did not edit out any footage because there is so little of it and it is rare to find. The original Super8 film was silent and while acceptable in 1974, todays viewers expect more. A music sound track and race car sounds were added to provide more depth. |

This is a Super8 sound film made in 1976. Assignment: 1 week to come up with an idea, find locations, film, edit & add titles (and the film shows it)! Film processing in 1976 took several days so the movie is short on script and has some scenes missing that were never filmed. As usual the film was shot out of order and in the dialog it is assumed that all of the scenes are there per script! The original filming and editing took 20 hours and was shot on 190 feet of film. Finished, it ran 8min 10sec. The new version runs just 6min 22sec with no important scenes left out. NLE editing is so much better than splicing and taping! The new version has adjustments for color noise, camera shake and color correction. Additionally some image zooms, music, titles and sound effects were added. Synchronizing the sound is another lengthy process because it is created as a wav file by a second pass of the film on a projector that captures the sound only. |
